Join us for First Friday and the opening of Vessel: Embodiment, Autonomy, and Ornament in Wood. Connecting to the Center for Art in Wood’s origins as an advocate for woodturning in art, this exhibition examines the vessel as a source of inspiration for artists working in wood. How have they been informed not only by the material and the pleasing roundness of the turned form, but also questions of offering and ownership, or concealment and emptiness? For millennia, the idea of the vessel has been used to explain the secrets of the universe. This exhibition, which includes works from the Center’s permanent collection as well as on loan, demonstrates the breadth of reflection, empowerment, subversion, and spiritual awareness inspired by the act of containment and the vessel form.

New corner jigs from Woodpeckers
Tired of searching for the right-sized jar lid to lay out your rounded corners, then hacking them out with a jig saw and trying to sand them smooth? Just pick the radius or chamfer you want, attach it to the base plate and you’re ready to rout a perfect corner…either hand-held or on your router table. The Corner Jig has been a part of our OneTIME Tool program before, but this time we’ve added four new large radius templates and a wall-mountable Rack-It to keep your Corner Jig in plain sight and ready to go.
The 16 radius templates start at 1/8″ and run to 1-1/2″ in eighth-inch increments and from 1-3/4″ to 2-1/2″ in quarter-inch increments. The chamfer templates run from 1/4″ to 1-1/2″ in quarter-inch increments. When you’re deciding the style and size of the softened corner you want, just try them out on the corner of your work until you decide which looks best.
