An electronic handsaw coach
A cool gadget for those of you who want your hand saw to yell at you when you're not cutting straight.I’m not sure when I came across this video, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I love making my own electronic gadgets and I love woodworking doo-dads, but this might be a bridge too far. I think this handsaw coach sensor and app are very cool, but I couldn’t imagine using it—if even just because I already have too many bleepybloopers in my life. That said, I thought it was interesting and I think some of you will too. It’s likely even more of you will HATE it, and hey, let us know in the comments below!

(sigh)
I had one of those 60 years ago. I called him dad and he only snorted. A lot easier on the ears.
I want my 1:51 back.
“I’m not sure how I feel about it.”
Seriously? 😁
Technologies like this and the Shaper Origin turn humans into feedback-controlled servo motors. No thanks.
I had an app similar to this that told me when I wasn't brushing my teeth properly - pressing too hard, going too fast, not cleaning thoroughly. Really? I think I'll spend some time this weekend deleting apps.
Mission accomplished you made me look
Now I am sorry I did
I've been developing my own sawing sensor. It's wired directly into a pair of electronic underpants. It send a mild electric shock if you stray from the line.
The first few thousand dovetails are rough, but it gets easier after that.
Just might be good for training muscle memory, I'd say. It's not much different from a Veritas dovetail guide, is it?
How many of us use magnetic dovetail guides? (I'm only a little ashamed.) If this helps achieve an acceptable outcome, I don't see it as much different than using almost any tool.
