Melamine tape makes drawers glide smoothly
Edge-banding tape on the bottom of drawer pockets creates a perfect gap.I recently tried attaching melamine edge-banding tape to the bottom of my drawer pockets, and I’ve been very pleased with the results. I’ve used wax in the past, but it can degrade and disappear over time, while the melamine is there to stay. I used iron-on tape, which adheres firmly and permanently. As a bonus, the thin banding creates a perfect gap at the bottom of my drawer fronts. Stop the tape 1/2 in. or so from the front edge of the drawer pocket, so it doesn’t show.

There is also a UHMW plastic tape available though it might be pricey compared to edge banding. I've used the UMHW tape for heavy or high friction applications.
