The spirit of George Nakashima Woodworkers
Nakashima's legacy persists through insightful interviews and stunning footage of his grounds, furniture, and workshops.George Nakashima Woodworkers recently released a video of insightful interviews with their team, featuring excellent footage of the grounds, buildings, furniture, and workshops. Nakashima’s woodworking philosophy and dedication to traditional Japanese building principles is present throughout, not only in the peaceful beauty of the buildings, but also in the harmony between the furniture pieces within them. It’s beautifully done, capturing the spirit of the place in a way I haven’t seen before.

An extraordinary video. Thanks for offering it to us.
Thanks for sharing; that was very calming and inspiring. I was struck by what the craftswoman said about preserving the techniques of the workshop, and not letting new, individual techniques creep in. That makes sense for preserving heritage, but is very different from how most woodworking is done.
Thank you for sharing the amazing George Nakashima Woodworkers video!
Last fall, my wife and I had the great pleasure of meeting Charles Bello on his 400 acre redwood farm in northern Cal.:

We stayed there for 3 nights. Charles is an architect and builder, inventor and woodworker, naturalist and environmentalist. He turned 90 last year. I can only hope I have close to his energy when I turn 60 in 2 years! He possesses a rare wealth of knowledge that could only be achieved through his unique connection with the redwoods and the land. Very inspirational!
