Fundamentals
Matthew (a current North Bennet student) asks:
I’d like to ask, how much of your woodworking today is influenced by what you may have learned in school or classes that you’ve taken? Would you say you’re relying mostly on the fundamentals still or have you developed your own habits and techniques that might differ greatly from what you originally learned?
Sharpness
From John:
How do you handle getting sharp where time is money?
Staying Focused
From Aaron:
How do you stay focused in the monotony of repetition?
Production and Quality
From John:
What are the tradeoffs ,if any, between production needs (throughput, price point) and quality or craftsmanship? Along these same lines, is production work mundane? How much work in a production cabinet or furniture shop is serial production vs. problem solving?
Is it possible to run a successful and sustainable production shop where an individual takes a piece from start to finish, or does the work really need to be serialized in order for production to work?
