Simple, solid board jack for any workbench
To create a simple board jack, screw a board to the underside of your benchtop, making sure the end of the board is far enough from the vise to allow it to be used normally. My Uncle Paul, a professional carpenter, taught me many things over the years, including this elegantly simple way to create a board jack. You simply screw a board to the underside of your benchtop, making sure the end of the board is far enough from the vise to allow it to be used normally. The board supports the full length of all but the very longest boards, stabilizing them beautifully for edge-planing. But it doesn’t have to stick out so far that it will get in the way during normal use of the bench.
This tip is a tribute to my woodworking hero.
