A Saddle Square You May Already Have

A saddle square is an expensive little tool made expressly for transferring layout lines from one plane of a workpiece to a perpendicular plane—to scribe around all four sides of a table leg, for example. I have needed such a tool often enough to wish I had one, but I stopped wishing after I realized that I already did. It is simply the centering head from a combination square with the blade detached.
