Speedier L-fence Setup
I made Bob Van Dyke’s L-fence for my tablesaw (“The Incredible L-Fence,” FWW #237), and I love the versatility—I use it all the time. I modified mine to make it even easier to use. Instead of attaching it to the tablesaw fence with C-clamps, I use low-profile universal fence clamps, mounted via two holes drilled in the top edge of the L-fence.
I also use pairs of spacer blocks to set the fence height easily and fast. The blocks insert in a rabbet on the bottom of the L-fence. Cut the blocks in thickness increments of 1⁄8 in., and label them. Use spacers 1⁄8 in. thicker than the desired fence height in the rabbet at each end of the fence, then tighten the clamps to lock the fence in place.

I had the same idea as I had purchased the universal clamps to work with my Dewalt Table Saw. Downside is that the clamps are too small for my Sawstop PCS fence. I will have to build the jig like Bob Van Dyke. One thing that could have got in the way is the Jessem Roller guides that I use but luckily I mounted them to the fence using a couple of mag switches. For spacer one can also use 1-2-3 block. They are greatly useful especially since being metal they are dimensionally stable.
