Eugene Landon is one of the most prolific builders of authentic reproduction furniture. A visit to Landon’s shop is a trip back in time: Walls are lined with antique tools, wide pine boards cover the floor, and period furniture around the room is in various stages of construction or repair. But there are also modern power tools such as the tablesaw, chopsaw, and thickness planer. This avid collector of antique tools freely admits he prefers today’s modern metal bench planes to yesterday’s wooden ones.
Landon was honored by the Society of American Period Furniture Makers in 2003 with its annual Cartouche Award for lifetime achievement. Landon is a frequent instructor at the Olde Mill Cabinet Shoppe in York, Pennsylvania; you have to sign up early for his classes, as he has a large band of repeat students.
