Oyster Cabinet
Woodworker: Silas Kopf
Kopf made the cabinet, called Falling Oysters, after a neighbor gave him limbs cut from a walnut tree. The walnut oysters are set into a background of purpleheart veneer that had oxidized to a deep, red color. The top and the base are ebonized ash. This design practice was common among 17th- and 18th-century Dutch and Engligh furniture makers.
