Video Tour of Richard Ciupka’s Underground Workshop
Find out how one woodworker got around local planning regulations by burying his dream shopRetiree Richard Ciupka wanted to build the ultimate workshop, but his dream was stymied by local planning rules. So, he found a compromise by burying the 800-square-foot shop underground. Get a tour of this incredible space and learn out about the harrowing effort to build it.
Constructing “the bunker” was a budget buster, but Ciupka is pleased with the results. The shop below the frost line stays warm, even in Canada’s cold winters, and the earth that surrounds it is a fantastic buffer for loud shop noises so Ciupka can work until 2 a.m. without worrying about the neighbors.
