Like many woodworkers, Brent Beach developed an interest in the craft in public school. When he bought a house with a room for a small shop, he began filling it with power tools. Eventually, though, he found hand tools more to his liking and sold the big machines. That affection for handwork led to a passion for keeping his plane blades and bench chisels always sharp and at the ready, and for his regular participation in hand-tool forums.
