In college, Emmet Van Driesche (Designer’s Notebook) turned to spoon carving after some guy tried to steal away his girlfriend by giving her a spoon he had carved. In a fit of indignation, Emmet sat down with his Swiss army knife and some sandpaper. After battling a bit of dry butternut for hours he had a passable spoon. It was hard work! These days, Emmet is a professional spoon carver, Christmas tree farmer, editor of technical manuscripts, book author, and publisher of Spoonesaurus Magazine.
