Garry Bennett is an internationally acclaimed furniture maker whose work is included in public and private collections around the world, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Between 1958 and 1962 Bennett studied painting and sculpture at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, Calif. After college, he worked as a sculpture, painter, and jewelry maker, and opened a successful business making elaborate roach clips just in time to meet the demand for those objects from a growing hippy population across the Bay in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district.
By the early 1970s, Bennett switched his sights to furniture making, beginning his celebrated career of more than 30 years. In 2004, Bennett won the Award of Distinction from The Furniture Society and honored as Fellow of the American Craft Council.
