Libby Schrum took a slow, steady path into woodworking. About 15 years ago, she took the 12-week intensive course at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine. She followed that up with a master’s degree in furniture design from Rhode Island School of Design. She went back to CFC for a year as a studio fellow, and then spent some time building boats. Now she builds furniture in her shop in Camden. “Most days,” Schrum says, “I feel as though I know what I’m doing. The rest of the time, I know I have the skills to problem solve, which is almost more valuable.”
