Turner, who lives in South Portland, Maine, creates one-of-a-kind furniture with a clear Shaker lineage. He teaches a few weeks each year at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, but mostly he sticks close to home, working in a shop behind his house. “I love what I make; I love what I do,” he says, “and best of all, I can do it 10 steps from home.”
