Steve Casey is a studio craftsman who lives with his wife and two teenage sons in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains in California. Casey first appeared in Fine Woodworking in 1979, on the back cover of Design Book II. He returned to the magazine in 2005 with an article on designing furniture and casework for home-theater system.
Casey’s woodworking career began in 1974 at the age of 19 while taking a woodworking class at a local Los Angeles night school. Excited by the craft, he enrolled in the Art Department at California State University Northridge to study woodworking as a fine art. By 1978 he had started his own custom woodworking business building custom furniture, sculpture, case goods, media centers and all types of woodwork. These days, he specializes in designing and building home-theater furniture and cabinetry.
When he’s not working you can find him riding his sport bike on the local twisty roads in the Santa Monica Mountains or fly-fishing on mountain streams.
