A couple of years ago when Tim Manney, after much cajoling by friends, belatedly joined Instagram, he wrote, “It’s fair to say that nothing I do is insta.” When he was eager to explore the Maine coast by boat, he built himself a skin-on-frame kayak; as winter approached, he made a pair of cross-country skis; wanting to make chairs, he designed and built a shaving horse. Luckily for other chairmakers, he does go into production mode for the superb reamers that he turns in his Portland shop and sells on his website, timmanney.com.
