Rather than simply read a book on classical architecture, Tim Killen set out to create a Classical Order in SketchUp

As a follow-on to his recent blog post on modeling angled dovetails, Dave Richards thought it would be interesting to take a look at how Chris Gochnour’s dovetails can be modeled.

Tim Killen needs to work out dimensions and angles from an old Shaker chair pattern, so he uses SketchUp, one of his favorite tools, to fill the gaps.

The dovetails for a typical case or drawer box with square corners are generally pretty straightforward because you can use the native Push/Pull to create the pins and sockets. With both sides meeting at an angle like they do in this project, the dovetails require a different approach.
