After spending his 20s building log homes in Ohio, Craig Vandall Stevens went to California and attended The Krenov School (then known as College of the Redwoods) for two years in the early 1990s. Afterward, he worked as a studio furniture maker for more than 25 years before taking his current position as executive director at Philadelphia Furniture Workshop. There he does most of the teaching, cleans the coffee maker, and shares studio space with his wife, Mami, who learned woodworking in Japan.
