I’m on a tight budget, building a new home, my son & the War Department(wife) all get some of it.I’m also a newbie, so I want a lot of tools now but can’t afford the big shop tools I read in the mags about. I’ve been looking at both the Craftsman and Ryobi 10″ BS models and would like to hear what you have to say about them. None of the WW mags seem to be willing to compare these cheaper tools in their tool tests. ps My wife is very good. I got a 12 x 32 separate shop with the house. Thanks Stan

How much would either of those saws cost you? My guess is, the lower end Grizzly 14" saw (3/4HP) would only be about $100 more or so and would not end up in your yard sale a year or so down the road.

Don't settle for a tool you don't really want! Just find a good deal on a used 14" or bigger saw. You'll be glad you got the better machine, and remember, old iron is usually better quality then the new stuff. I bought a 36" Oliver bandsaw that I use all the time for $400 on Ebay. I got a 14" Delta at an estate auction for $150. Be a little patient, a good deal will cross your path.
BTW, your shop has the exact dimensions of my last shop. Wierd.

I've been ready to replace my old Delt 9" all summer. I've been pouring over the reviews and stats for a long time before that. The temptation is to say please get a 14" unless all you are ever going to do is cut curves in thin workpieces. But space is always a problem. I'd rather get the new 12" Hitachi ($299 at Lowes) than anything smaller, but am holding out for a 14" Delta, used if I come across one. One main reason is the availability of aftermarket parts and accessories. They are like the small bock Chevy of the bandsaw world.

LOL, Thanks for sharing that, best analogy I've heard in a while.
