Hi all……..I’m looking to buy a 12″ disk sander and I see one in my ENCO catalog which looks good @ $175. but the speed has me concerned, it”s 3470rpm. This seems fast to me. They suggest it for wood and metal. Oters I’ve seen run between 2400rpm (Wilton) to 1750. I”m afraid the higher speed will burn the wood.
Any comments?

That's high rpm.
I've got a Rockwell that runs at 1740 rpm. At 3470, my concern is the torque is cut in half, so the total power is cut in half. Not what you'd want in a 12" grinder/disc sander. I don't think burning is an issue, that usually depends on feed rate not on the machine.
I have a grizzly which runs at 1725 rpm's. 3450 does seem too fast.

I have a Jet 20" that was 1750 rpm and it was still too fast. Since it was 3 phase, I changed to a VFD and run it about 750 rpm and works great.
