14″ Bandsaw Blade Speed? 4000 FPM?
I’ve heard some about increasing the blade speed of the 14″ Delta-type bandsaw to 4000 FPM? I think its Iturra that recommends this.
Has anyone tried this? Results?
I’m kicking around the idea of bumping up to a 1.5 hp motor from my current 3/4 hp and thought I might increase the speed at the same time if its an improvement. I do occasional and likely more frequent resawing in the 4-8″ range for laminations.
Its a USA Delta saw so the bearings should be up to it but have no idea if its worth the effort.
Thanks.

Unless you find a decent 1.5HP motor cheap, I wouldn't bother. You could buy a lot of bands for that money, or put it into another tool that you need.

I'm thinking I can find one for around $125 and if it is an improvement in speed and no loss in quality it would be worth it with the number of lam's I'll be doing.Doing a run of chairs can mean a couple hours at the bandsaw so any gain is worth it short of spending 1200+ for a bigger machine. Besides for smaller work I really like my little Delta.Still in the chin-stroking phase, though.
I'm assuming you're talking about used. A new "1.5HP motor" at that price is likely not an improvement.
I believe you'd need to glue the tires to the wheels.

Used or a new pull-off from an auction site is what I had in mind.I do know that I can bog my 3/4 hp down with some resaw cuts. If I can improve for 100-150 it would be worth it in the long run. (motor, pulley, and maybe a link belt)I ordered a catalog from Iturra and will see what the claims are before I go any further.I was just wanting to see if anyone had bothered trying this "hotrod" modification and if it nets any improvement.
Make sure your machine is designed so that it will run at a higher speed.
