I have the Grizzly GO555 ultimate bandsaw. I don't know anything about the Rigid but I can recommend some things to look for and to get.
Make sure whatever you buy has a good 4" dust port.. a quick release handle.. and a decent fence.
I ordered the riser kit with my saw and installed it for resaw capacity up to 12".
Get yourself a 1/2", 3 TPI blade from Suffolk Machinery (Timberwolf Blades). You might also get a 1/4" blade if you'll be cutting tight radii.
I have had the Ridgid bandsaw for a couple of years. In my opinion it is equivalent to the Jet 14 inch. The saw resaws oak, maple, cherry, and anything else I've put to it withouta whimper. I use a 1/2 in. 3 tpi blade. I do not have the riser, but I understand that the Grizzly riser kit works perfectly. My saw has very little vibration and serves my needs completely. I am certain that you have an equal chance of being pleased also with Jet or Grizzly or Delta as your budget permits.
Sincerely,
MikeN
I think the Grizzly G0555 will outperform the Rigid bandsaw. The most common complaint I've heard about the Rigid is that it's underpowered. The G0555 has a 1HP motor. It also has the quick blade release, an excellent fence, and ball bearing blade guides. I got a report from Dennis this week, after he made a trip to the Grizzly showroom, that they've greatly improved the guide assembly from what it was on the old model 14" saw (which I have, the 1019Z).
If the $425 price tag of the G0555 is too steep, well, try and save up. Still not possible? You can get the 3/4HP version for $325. Shipping is $58.
Here's the link to the Grizzly G0555.
