I too looked at the delta and decided against it because with the motor on top the blades are really hard to change. I went with the 15" Jet. No regrets.

Thanks Tom, Jet never intered my mind, will a 15" jet planer hold up to heavy use?

Mark,
Absolutely. Its the same as the powermatic 15" and many other offshore 15" planers. All made by the same company. Very heavy duty proven design. 3HP, 230V motor. Three belt drive. Great dust chute. Two feed speeds. Bed rollers. A great machine.

When I start looking for tools, I start at a web site called Toolseeker.com. It's just a listing of various tools and where they are offered and at what price. If you're looking into Jet, check out Discount.campus.com
They've just showed up on toolseeker. I don't quite get the site name either, but they seem to deal mostly with schools and institutions, and their Jet prices on machines are all from 10 to 20% lower then anyone else. Even with shipping, they generally have a better deal, and if you're in CA, you might even save on shipping.
A lot of these places also have discount codes on toolseeker just to monitor site use. For example, with the recent amazon talk, you can get another $5 with a code from there. Not sure if everyone will or always will mix deals. I did use it once while amazon had a $20 off any PC tool over $199. So, I got $25. Just a thought for you Jet fans. But it goes for many other maufacturers and web sites. Hope it helps.

I did a lot of research a year ago and decided on the 15" Jet. Its strong and accurate.....
Just checked prices at Amazon, and the 15" Jet and Powermatic planers are the same price. Were I in your shoes I'd get the Powermatic. Not much difference between the two, but I couldn't resist having the name in my shop!!!

Back to your original thought, buy the Delta. I have used the 15" for over 4 years and it is great.
I is made overseas as are all the others but at a different plant and with different specs than Jet, Grizzle, Powermatic.
The cutterhead is closer to the rollers to minimize sniping, the 2 speed fast speed is speedier than the others for quick removal. The outfeed roller is also rubber (poly) to prevent maring the finished board (others have serrated outfeeds), and unless the others changed the infeed serrated roller design, they may still have parallel serrations vs contoured which is best for even board feed.
Contrary to another's opinion (who bought the Jet), the motor on the top does not obstruct or hinder blade knife adjustment or replacement - I have done it numerous times now. The motor has a special mounting that allows the loosening of two bolts to lower the entire motor mount out of the way. It also does not disturb belt tension as this is another set of bolts.
