I’m looking for some 16/4 black wanut. Sapwood is waste to me and the lumber must be quite clear. It must be kiln dried and I don’t care if it was steamed. I’ll pay for some sapwood but I must be able to get all heart cuts.
Does anyone here have a good source?

Hi Lee,
Not sure where you are located but Crosscut Hardwoods in Portland Oregon stocks 16/4 walnut. Their email address is... http://www.emersonhardwood.com/cchw/default.asp
Talk to Thomas he is great. Tell him that Robby from RP Custom Woodworks sent you and he will take care of you. Just FYI it may be tough to find walnut that thick without much sapwood. They just cut the tress down to early. If their is any Thomas will find it.
Hope this helps

Don't know where you are, what you are willing to pay, or what size you need.
Just saw an ad for 20 slabs from the same tree 10/4 x 36" x 72". I expect that they could have given you what you want.
There is a lot of big wood out there. Lots of people with 16/4 leg stock.
Do a google search.
Lee,
You live in the wrong part of the country, 16/4 black walnut all heartwood? I pay $2.00 for a 9 foot length of it. (sorry just braggin' now it's closer to $1.85 bd.ft. ) anyway my source is green and rough but zero sapwood. How soon do you need it? There are a couple of places that microwave timbers and if you needed it rightaway you could have it sent there and a day later they'd be sending to you.
Lee,
Can't say how well this'll work out for you, but...
I grew up in the Ozarks. Walnut trees like weeds. I was back home--Salem, MO--last summer and visited a place called Current River Hardwoods,
http://www.currentriverhardwoods.com/
They had an abundance of many kinds of hardwoods, and, being in business, of course they leaned toward mouldings and flooring. But they had an impressive warehouse of area hardwoods which included various oaks, and of course, walnut. I don't recall their asking price--i was looking fro QSWO--and they didn't seem to know what to make of a fine woodworker when I was there, but it's worth a look. If they can't help. maybe they can direct you.
I overheard a conversation there last summer, two old timers crabbing about the price of hardwood (insert thick hillbilly accent): "Can yew buleeve the cowst 'a wallnut? Even thuh crap stuff's up ta 90 ceents a bard foot!" Maybe you'll get a good deal. Hope so.
