1950’a delta/rockwell drill, how to attach chuck to spindle??
ok, i bought this 50’s delta,rockwell homecraft drill press. the chuck came away from the spindle, and i cant figure out how to put it back together. any suggestions ??

and if you know the process to move the belt, up and down the pulley , i would be interested. my antique instructions are not very clear on this.

It's a morse taper so, basically a friction fit. Clean both parts with mineral spirits, then just lower the quill into the chuck with the chuck against the table.
For moving the belt, officially you're supposed to loosen the bolts on the motor tension bars. This is a pain, so I just manipulate the belt on one end to the next smaller pulley. Then you should have enough slack to get the other end to the next larger pulley. I try to find a goo all purpose speed and leave it.

much appreciated. will give that a try tomorrow. i was a bit surprised at the friction fit, but maybe that is to keep everything from binding up, and sending the press to recycling.
i dunno about moving the belt up and down, it seems pretty secure, but will try again tomorrow.
