1990’s 14″ Delta Bandsaw lower wheel moves in and out along axle
I was changing my band saw blade today and I noticed that the bottom wheel has play allowing the wheel to move in and out on its axle. I bought this band saw brand new in the 90’s and it has always been an exceptionally great tracking saw, and really not used that much, I have really liked it over the years and it still looks like new. I still don’t have any tracking issues at the moment but is it normal that there is back and forth play on the bottom wheel along the axle? I’ve never noticed this before and just wondering do I have a problem?
Thanks and I appreciate any comments from fellow Delta 14″ band saw users.

My first thought is that the set screw that holds the wheel in place has come loose.
+1 with bilyo. Maybe a pc of keystock as well.
I agree with the two previous posters. I forgot to look at mine today when I was in the shop. You have a potential problem, as if it gets worse, the wheel might start to rub the guards or frame. You will likely hear that! I'll try to remember to look at mine tomorrow...

Thanks to everyone,
First off I love this Band saw, it has just been outstanding through the years. I would but it all over again. I decided this morning that the play in the wheel along the AXLE was not part of the tracking mechanism. So I tightened the nut on the wheel for the first time since I bought it about 30 years ago. So far so good... Perhaps after 30 years it just loosened. Hopefully this will correct this for another 30 years. If not I will let you know. Thanks a bunch, Doug
