Can 2 dust collectors (just the motor from one) be placed together in series to increase the air flow?

You can get approximately double the air flow volume by hooking them in parallel and increasing the duct size appropriately. You might get some improved air flow with them in series, but it won't be anywhere near as much, because whatever bottlenecks are restricting the airflow with one blower will still be there when you add the second one.
