Here in N central VA I cannot find 3/8 luan, 3/8 birch or 3/8 baltic birch.
Anybody have advice for me?

those are unusual sizes 'bout anywhere, but you might try Heritage Hardwoods, I think in Manassas.
Thanks,There a Heritge Hardwoods in Marshall but I spoke with their Alexandria office and they don't have it and I could not fine anybody by that name in Manassas on the web.This guy has a Luan and Baltic Birch in 3/8 in Vienna and I emailed them to see if there is anybody there on Sunday because I am in that area:http://www.viennahardwood.com/products.htmlJohn
