Hey all,
Has anybody else had this problem and/or know of a fix? One of the tips of my 3 jaw chuck is sticking up about an 1/8″+ higher than the others. It happened last night while working and waiting for the midnight clamp run. Its a Black and Decker Firestorm 14.4V cordless drill, keyless chuck, about 3 years old with reasonably heavy use (not professional). I was using the phillips screw bit for a bunch of drywall screws in 3/4″ plywood, switched to a forestner bit for 2 holes and something didn’t feel right when removing it and switching to a twist drill bit. Wow, look at that, what the hell happened? Drill bits wobble a little, but not really noticeable with a screw bit installed. I messed with it for a few minutes with no solution. A fresh look at it tonight didn’t help.
It’s always something!
Enjoy, Roy

Had this type of thing happen a few times myself.
You might try a good shot of WD-40 along the side of the "stuck" jaw and a light tap with a mallet or something similar. If it snaps back in place (aligned with the other 2 jaws) you lucked out! If not, then its time for a new chuck.
I've only seen this happen whith a keyed chuck once (approx 15 years old in a machine shop). But I've had it happen to my cordless drills twice and seen it happen to several others.
