Anyone have experience with a good, but not toooo expensive, 3D room design software? Must work on Vista. I’ve got three rooms I’m remaking, could really use a visual aide here!
I had a good one back in Win95 days, long gone now.

Errr...SketchUp...?
You can often pick up a cheep software (house design kind) at Sam's Clubs or Costco. These are set up to do 3d room design. I have not looked of late but you used to be able to get them for maybe $30 or so. They have walls, windows, doors and furniture. Also sometimes you can pick them up for cheep at the office store when they are trying to dump them for the new version.

Nope, SketchUp won't work for me. It needs to be dead simple! Thanks, though. I'm going to work on SketchUp this winter, and take a class next summer when one of our east coast members comes out to my area and has a class scheduled in beautiful Port Townsend.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I felt the earth move but I didn't know Minnesota had shifted all the way to the east coast. ;) I bet there'll be lobsters.
Actually, I had Maine in mind when I typed that. The both start with M, what can I say??? ;-)

Whew!!! I just finished downloading all of the tutorials for Sketch-up that are the non-Pro videos! Have to leave the bar now, go home and maybe go through a couple of 'em. The appetizers made a good dinner, and I stayed away from alcohol, so it should be a productive evening!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Good for you. What were the appetizers?
A friend of mine thinks highly of this outfit.

Don, thanks, that's one of the two programs I'm looking at so far. Good to have a vote of confidence.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Wellllll, I paid my subscription and have been playing with it for an hour or so. Building walls was easy, installing the water heater was a snap, but when I installed the sink (this is a tack room, BTW), it went in co-planer with the wall (drain pipe sticking out the back of the wall). Can't seem to fix that! ROFL!
Also, once I "lock" an item (bookcase/locker), it doesn't unlock, even after the program has offered to, and I respond "Yes." Guess tomorrow I'll see if there's a forum for the program.

All of my rooms are 4D. The fourth, time, being the most important D (especially in the shop room). ;-)
