I’m looking at getting a new compressor for spraying with my Porter Cable HVLP (8 SCFM). <!—-><!—-><!—->

There are two models that I am interested in: $550 for a 10SCFM@90 60gallon 3HP, or $800 for an 18SCFM@90 60gallon 5HP. I do several kitchens a year on the side and will be spraying doors, as well as cabinets. Just wondering if I should spend the extra $250 and get a larger compressor. I have heard mixed feelings about the 3HP 60 gallon ones – just on the border of being commercial grade, but not quite. Please share your thoughts.
Thanks.<!—-> <!—->

I've had the 3 HP for about 15 years- For wood working I can honestly say that I have never needed more- Spray finishing is the most taxing thing I ever do with my compressor and it handles it well.
I don't do any auto-body work and I don't ever spray 8 hours a day for weeks at a time.
I'd find a nice $250 gift for the workshop :-) or save it for the next project.
Nathan,
You're better at answering this question yourself. First have you ever gotten something and within a reasonable period of time wanted more?
A 10 foot canoe seems like enough if you have no boat,, however an awfull lot of little canoes become 16 foot fishing boats and then 22 foot cuddy cabins , and then40 houseboats..
It's massively cheaper to buy the houseboat from the start even if it costs more..
