The recent issue of Fine Woodworking did a nice job of comparing 14 in. bandsaws. I’m quickly down to considering Delta 28-275, Jet JWBS-140S, Ridgid S1400, and Grizzly 1019 (or 1019Z). The Grizzly price is very appealing. I am able locally to go look at, touch, feel, etc. all but the Grizzly. Help me out with some first hand experiences with the Grizzly — good, bad, and otherwise. First hand comparisons with the other saws mentioned would be particularly interesting.

I have the Grizz 1019Z, and given the same budget I had at the time, I'd buy the same. However, if I had the additional $$$ I'd get the Jet instead -- especially if their fence comes with it, as it seems to now (but didn't when I wa shopping). The Jet is a better quality and less fussy to set up, adjust, etc. Probably a better motor too.
The guides and guide assembly on the Grizz are perhaps the weakest point -- don't stay adjusted very well as you change settings on the blade guard.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Those on the board know that I like modest prices in tools that do acceptable work. I often reccomend Grizzly.
I choose Jet for a bandsaw because it has twice the power and an optional riser block for resawing thicker boards. While close to twice the price of Grizzly for me, I had no choice. The jet is OK quality wise, not any better than Grizzly but I hear that it's a more reliable piece than Delta.
John, I recently made a similar decision. I chose the Jet over the Delta but because I had saved for the Delta, I threw a few more dollars at it and stepped up to the 18" jet, a decision I don't regret at all. My number one reason for choosing the Jet over the Delta was proven, excellent customer service. I have two Delta tools, (planer and belt sander), they have never broken and I've never called customer service. My comparision was personal experience versus comments I've heard about Delta's poor customer service. Personal experience won.

I bought a Grizzley Z. Agree the guides may be a bit fussy but for the price difference I can fuss. The fence isnt much but then neither are most of the others. When I added a Timberwolf 10 tooth 1/4 blade the performance improved co;nsiderably. I Got what I paid for and have no complaints.
