I want to make 5ft x 8ft 3/4″ birch plywood panel. What is the best technique to butt join two plywood sheets so that the joint will have minimal visibility since this will be a decorative panel. Thanks.

Biscuits on ply. They have a wider physical area so they hold well even if you hit the occasional air pocket. When you pick your stock (hopefully you can pick) try to get two pieces that will allow the grain to flow. Do this by laying one piece over the top of the other and sliding it accross until you find the match. Nine times out of ten I find it is the third piece in the stack that matches the first.

Thanks Steve. How far spaced the biscuits should be? Every 12"?
I don't know of any specific spacing requirements. 12" sounds good to me. If your ply is warped you can probably go to 9" without any problems but I wouldn't go any less than that.Steve - in Northern California
Thanks again, Milan
Mills do make pywood that is 5 feet wide. Your local lumberyard probably doesn't stock it, but may be able to order it for you.
Thanks, Milan
