8 1/2 inch blade ok in 8 1/4 inch RAS?
I’ve got an old Craftsman 8 1/4″ RAS (model 113.234800) that has served me well. I’d like to put a 60 tooth ultra fine finish blade in it for a current project. However I’m finding it hard to find a 8 1/4″ 60 tooth blade. It seems that 60 tooth 8 1/2″ blades abound. My Craftsman manual says to only use 8 1/4″ blades. Does anyone know if it would still be safe to use a 8 1/2″ blade in this saw?

The only issue is will it fit under the guard? 1/4" isn't going to make any difference in safety. Negative hook blades are the best for RAS as they are less likely to grab the wood and want to walk over the board.
Very good guys. Thanks. I'll give it a try (slooowly).
Dear J,
I am not familiar with that model, but I can't see the harm as long as the blade clears the guard as I am pretty sure that it will. I would bolt it on, spin it by hand and if you don't hear or feel any thing that scrapes or hangs up. Then I would go ahead and start her up. If there are no sparks, or metal shavings, then you are in good shape!
Best,
John
Freud and Amana both make 8 1/4" blades. Also there was a Delta blade that was 60 tooth and 8 1/4" that I still use after a half dozen sharpenings.Haven't measured it to see what is measures now though.I use it in a 10" cabinet saw often.
