Hello All,
My next purchase is a larger jointer. I have outgrown my 6″ and am ready to step up. I own my own mill so I deal with larger pieces of stock. I am currently looking at either the Shop Fox or the Yorkcraft because of price and because they got good reviews. I know they are not Powermatics, but they are the best I can afford. Question being, should I spend $800 on a 8″ or go ahead and spend $1600 on the 12″ which would be darn cool. Any thoughts to guide me along?
Thank-you,
Jeff

I would go for the 8"er and be 2/3rds of the way saved for a 15"planer.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

If your up for messing with old tools you might look for a used 12" jointer. Take a look at owwm.com they have a lot of info on older jointers. If you have a 8" jointer you will want to joint 9" boards if you get a 12" jointer you will want to joint 13" boards. If you get a 16" jointer you will get no sypathy from me;)

Take a look at the grizzlys. They have excellent reviews. I'm looking at either an 8" or 10". If you want a 12, there is a nice one with parall tables. Good luck on the decision. What ever you get post a pic and review to share with the rest of us.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Look at it like government spending: "Why get one when you can get two at twice the price"
Translation: GO FOR IT!! Get the 12". It's only my opinion, but the chances you'll regret getting a 8" will far outweigh the regrets of getting a 12"
