Bob Smalser posted a great article today on rehabbing chisels. From the tone of one of the replies, I gather that he has done this type of thing frequently. I searched for previous postings, with no luck.
I entered Bob’s name in the “From” field and “Find Messages containing all the words” and found nothing relevant. According to Bob’s profile, he has posted 230+ messages. What am I doing wrong?

The From: field on the search page doesn't take nicknames, only login ID. Six months ago, there were two ways that I knew of to find somebody's login ID, but neither of them works anymore. If a person's name on a message is in all caps and has no embedded spaces, there's a fair chance that it's that person's login ID, but that's not 100% positive. Other than that, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way to search for messages from a particular individual.
Several of Bob's earlier threads had to do with felling and milling large fir trees. There was also a thread with a bunch of pictures of a sawmill, but I can't remember if that one was Bob's or not. Maybe that will give you enough to search on.
Bummer! How are we supposed to develop a body of knowledge when the gooroos are essentially anonymous? Maybe I'll send him an e-mail directly and see if he'll provide his used ID.
Thanks for the reply.

Ron
Yeah, this glitch is realllllly irritating. Over a year ago, it was said it would be fixed. That part of the search function is completely useless as far as I'm concerned.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
FG,
I see you've been infected with the same CFC (Computer Frustration Complex) that plagues me on a daily basis!!
The only cure is:
A: One hour of uninterrupted shop time per CFC episode or
B: One frothy, grain based beverage consumed within one hour of CFC episode
Just kidding (?)

You could be looking in the wrong forum. Try the WWA forum. I think it was yesterday or the day before that he talked about rehabing chisels and today he talked about card scrapers.
Thanks, I'm flattered, but don't consider it a big deal taking the camera to work and writing them up at night. I haven't posted here much because I couldn't figure out how to do it using Word and not uploading pics...but I've recentlky figured that out.
Anyway, here's the stuff I've done:
Articles Published
These are all to be permanent articles on WoodCentral for everybody's free use...I post them around on most of the applicable forums, first, so the questions and comments provide me feedback for revisions to improve clarity.
Publishing takes time...a couple of these are in various logging/lumber trade mags and Woodenboat wants a couple, too.
As a commercial venture, it generally doesn't pay enuf to be worth the extra manhours of formatting...not to mention that editors need to remove half the pics to make budget, which ruins most of their usefulness over and above what you can do by puzzling thru an poorly illustrated book. For my time, I make more doing the craft or with the sawmill.
Here they all are...I generally only list the WB posting because they are permanently archived in their Boatbuilding FAQ there....others disappear after a while.

“When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think...that a time is to come when those (heirlooms) will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, ‘See! This our father did for us.’ “ --John Ruskin.
Thank you, Sir! I intend to read them with great interest.

Ron
