This is a great compilation of data that saved me a lot of time. I did notice a few things missing like readers choice on one tool, but I like the fact that they’ll put three or four tools in the this is a keeper or buy this one. One of the magazines I bought recently listed 10 planers and gushed about all of them. They didn’t rate the best purchase. This is like having a beauty contest and at the end you tell all the contestants, yep you are beautiful, thanks for coming.
At least FFW has the courage to pick the editor’s best, reader’s choice and best buys. I’ll buy one every year.

Ken

I'm gonna disagree on the "thorough effort" part. They left out one of the best-received and -upgraded tools around, the Grizzly G0444 14" bandsaw. The introduction of this saw over 2 years ago (IIRC) has pushed the other manufacturers to stop skimping on features and include things such as a fence(!) as standard equipment. To add insult to injury, they picked the old dinosaur 1019 from Grizzly to put into the mix. The least they could have done was review the 1019Z, which is a more powerful and more relevant machine.

zing...okay i agree, but based on your opinion of the band saw, i'll probably go the grizzly route for this machine. I was in the market for a planer and was happy about their work on this machine. I think they left out the readers choice on the planers, but it still saved a lot of leg work for me.
So write a letter to the editor about the lack of grizzly coverage.
You can also volunteer to be a previewer of the publication next year and catch a few things they might overlook. For a free subscription or something...

Heh, I made my displeasure known over at Knots. Maybe not the most appropriate place, but I've never been good at writing letters to the editor.
I don't want to be your soul source on bandsaw info <g>. Given the right budget, I'd go for a Minimax or something glorious like that, but you know how that goes......
