Hi I am getting set to make some kitchen cabinets out of Wenge and Zebra Wood. What type of finish do you think would be the best combination of durability, low- mid sheen apperance and compatibility with the two species. Thanks, Jim

Jim,
I missed this when it came in.
If you are applying the finish by hand, a good choice is one of the good cabinet varnishes such as Pratt and Lambert, McCloskey Gym Seal, to name a few.
I would seal the wood first with a light coat of Sealcoat ( blonde shellac) prior to varnishing.
If you have the ability to spray one of the pre-cat lacquers or a conversion varnish would be the most durable. Sherwin Williams makes a good quality product for this. Applying a vinyl sealer would be a good first coat with this system.
Peter
