A luthier wants to know: How to plane veneer stock from 4mm to 2mm

I am *not* the luthier. My son recently bought an oud, which is a guitar family instrument that looks like a fretless lute:

The luthier, who’s Arab, told my son he was looking for a way to easily thin down 4mm veneer stock to 2mm thickness. Is there a machine or a process to do this in a straightforward way?
