Is there any chance that this forum would consider adding a new folder to address topics concerning shop design, layout, construction, etc?
I have been observing the posts in this group for a few months- for various reasons, I haven’t posted much. I’ve gotten back into woodworking within the past few years, and the information in a group like this is pretty informative for a guy like me.
I am in the process of setting up a shop of my own, and I have noticed that there is precious little discussion on the subjects that must be addressed. I’m not sure what questions I would even have at this point. I’ve found in real-world face-to-face discussions that some of the best lessons are learned by listening to the discussion as it moves off it’s primary point.
Anyway, it’s a point I thought worth throwing out there…

JT,
Yes we can add new folders (though we have a limit) and I'd certainly be willing to do that one. I think issues about Shop set are big (thus the reason our extra issue of FW is now called Tools & Shops!).
So what do the rest of you think?

Tim I would be all for that. I have always been more interested in other peoples shop more so than there work, go figure.Scott C. Frankland

Tim, It's a great idea. There are certainly enough questions about shop setups to justify it. It would be great to have the information in a category of its own. Steve - in Northern California
I agree it would be worthy of a separate folder. As it stands now, it's hard to decide between "Plans", "General Discussions" and (a distant third) "Tools for Woodworking."forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Tim,
I agree that a section on shops or shop setup would be a valid area for discussion. Whose shop amongst us is static? Probably none. I know I am always tinkering with mine, trying to improve it's efficiency, adding or taking something away...There's always questions, so I say go for it. wb

I'm in.That would be nice to see and read more extensively about what works for other woodworkers.I am in the process of putting together my shop and could use a little help from time to time.I have posted a few questions and received some very helpful answers so it works now but I can see page just for this subject will be better.I know I will use it!
