A question about Bosch router template guide kit
I’ve never used router template guides before and I’m wondering about the descriptions Bosch uses identifying various guides contained in the kit. For example:
“RA1103 — Template guide for small dovetail joints” (5/16 In.OD x 17/64 In. ID x 9/64 In. projection)”
and
“RA1105 — Template guide for large dovetail joints (7/16 In. OD x 3/8 In. IX x 9/64 In. projection )”
I assume these descriptions indicate typical usages, not necessarily that these guides can only be used in the prescribed manner?
I’m intending to use RA1105 as a template guide for some letter and number routing. The OD fits the templates I’ve made, the projection also works, and I’ve ordered a 5/16″ Core Box Router Bit to do the actual cutting. It seems to me that this setup should work fine.
But since I have no experience here using this stuff I’d appreciate being waved off before I go down in flames.

You are correct in thinking you can use them anyway you like. I'm not familiar with the Bosch set but by the description they are probably design to work with a router jig specifically, probably Bosch, Maybe another popular brand like Leigh, but they are not limited to this use.
A couple bits of advice to calculate the offset from your template use the formula (½ OD bushing - ½ OD Bit)=Offset This doesn't necessarily apply in your specific use but does for general template routing using bushings.
The only reason the ID is provided is to determine the max diameter bit you can use. ½ ID Bushing -½ OD BIT > 3/32" this is important for proper chip clearance and to avoid heat build up.

Thank you for the reply. It seemed like what I was proposing should be OK but I appreciate the confirmation as I've used my router very little and have no experience with template guides.
