A recommended miter gage upgrade
I am interested in recommendations for a upgraded miter gage from the stock gage on my PM 66 TS. I have looked at several models and want to stay below about $125. I am a basic hobiest but want to buy good quality to last.
Thanks for your help

Just curious Bill, what's wrong the mitre guage? PM makes a good one for the 66, especially if you've got the "T" slot table....
Jack plane, I agree, there is nothing wrong with the mg on the 66...I very seldom use it due to a sliding table. For run of the mill cuts I use it but if I want square I use the sliding table, and if I want 45 I use the 45 sliding table...$125 is a waste of money. If you want a strange angle its real easy to get it without the high dollar miter gage...
A "basic hobbiest" w/ a 66? Yeah right:) I guess that makes me a sub-basic hobbiest w/ occaisional commissions w/ a Jet Xactasaw and I went with the Wood Haven fast-track because it's simple, has a decent mitre slot bar, good stops, switch hits easily from both sides of the plate and will swing a full 90*either way. The only problem is that it doesn't see much use outside of tenon shoulders since I got a Makita LS1212 SCMS a couple of years back.

I upgraded my TS miter gauge to the Incra 1000se for about $125.00. It is very accurate. You can get the bigger models for more money, but this one works fine for me. It has fixed 5 degree stops with the common 90,45,22.5 and a graduated scale to hit the degrees in between. It is rock solid and my miters are dead on. I like the telescoping fence and stop that comes with it. I bought it on the recommendation from some folks here and have not been disappointed yet. Good luck on your choice.

There is one on E-bay right now for 63 with 2 days left. I doubt it will end up at that price. Just want to state that I am not associated with this seller in anyway and cannot speak to their worthiness as a seller.

Know how to use a sliding T-Bevel? Cheapest miter gauge in the world works just fine if you do. Layout your project in full scale and transfer to the saw with the t-bevel. You will save big bucks (and accuracy) in the long run. By the way, I'm a pro and have always used the miter gauge that came with the saw. Much easier to either make your own for commonly used angles, or invest in a couple of good sliding T-bevels for the rest.. Best of luck. Jimmy.
Ditto on the Incra 1000; I don't think you can get as much for the money elsewhere.
I third the nomination of Incra 1000SE (I have the plain 1000, bought before the SE was available, more's the pity). If you don't want to go all the way to $125, you could get the V27, which is just the head and the bar, you make your own fence. It's $55 at Woodpecker's right now).

IMO, the 1000SE is a solid, extremely accurate gauge that adjusts well to fit the miter gauge, and the most reasonably priced of all the options out there.
