I was in the shed the other day when the kids called me out to look at one of the neighbours. He was about 18″ long and quiet enough to stroke down the back. Its called a bearded dragon.
The open space is a large reserve pretty well across the road. One day Ill take a camera and post some pics of the other residents – mostly kangaroos and snakes. There are no houses visible between me and and the hills on the horison. The other direction – I still hate suburbs.

Patto,
Looks suspiciously like my mother-in-law. Is it poisonous? If so, they could be related. How 'bout I send her to you for a reunion?

There are two secrets to keeping one's wife happy.
1. Let her think she's having her own way.
2. Let her have her own way. President Lyndon Baines Johnson
Dave,
Looks like a friendly beastie, well-fed, and one that'd be fun to have around helping keep various nasties out of your shop....
Nice countryside there, too!

It looks big enough to eat. I would clean it and fry it. If you do, let me know how they taste. We country boys will try anything once, if it doesn't kill us we might even try it again. Maybe broil it. I don't know.
These are a bit small and skinny, but the brown snakes that we get here are ok after they get over three feet (unlike this chap they are poinonous). The big goannas grow to about 5 feet and make good eating also. We dont see them here - i think the winters are too cold.
