The Mirka DEROS sander is designed to be compatible with dust-free sanding systems, and while it’s often paired with Mirka’s own dust extractors, it can also work with other brands. However, for specific compatibility with a 3M dust extractor, it would depend on the connections and adapters available. Mirka and Festool sanders and extractors are known to be compatible with each other, which suggests that there might be a possibility of cross-brand compatibility.
Whether or not Festool and Mirka extractors have the same connections, Rockler sells an adapter set. I'm sure one of the adapters would create the correct connection between the sander and the vacuum.
Thanks for the comments.
Sometimes you don't have to look too far to make something work. I had an old style household vacuum hose, cut it in half and scrounged various fittings at the local Restore. I get tight fittings for a Festool and Milwaukee sanders to my Ridgid shop vac.
I use mine connected to an old tellus home vacuum cleaner. I use the Mirka hose and connect it to the Tellus hose (itself a Rockler Dust Right system which I epoxied to the old Tellus fitting) with duct tape. It's messy. It's unprofessional but it has amazing reach and works really well. Also dirt cheap and still fits all my hand power tools.
