What is a strong abrasive that will not scratch glass?
I need to remove mineral deposits from glass and tile. CLR, vinegar, glass restorer, etc., aren’t strong enough. 0000 steel wool and elbow grease will eventually scrub the deposits off of glass, but it can’t be used on tile because the grout gets stained.
Because of the large area to be cleaned, I’d far rather use a (light-colored) polishing compound that can be applied to a buffing bonnet on an orbital sander.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Janet

Have you tried a razor blade scraper? If steel wool works, so should that method, at least for the bulk of the stain. Buy lots of blades.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can't use razor blades on the tile because there's not enough flat area. There's another shower that I haven't started on yet. I used the razor blade on that. It didn't remove the etched-in deposits, but it got everything else--a real time-saver.
I contacted a glass shop and they sold me "Bruce's GSR," which appears to be nothing more than brown clay mixed with enough water to make mud. It did work to scrub away the spots--and most of the pile on the polishing bonnet!--although clean-up was tedious. Most of it rinsed off but the grout needed scrubbing to get rid of the brown tinge.Next time I may concoct my own mud using porcelain clay. Same amount of mess but no staining. From what I've read on the 'Net, cerium oxide is the best abrasive for finish polishing.
