Hello all,
Introducing myself as a newbie woodworker, I am appreciative for the opportunity to participate and learn on this valuable forum.
I just purchased an Accuspray HVLP 240k and a #10 gun with the intention(pun intended) of spraying a quality water-based finish on a built-in entertainment center.
Chris Minick’s article from FWW seems to offer good suggestions, but I am curious about other real world recommendations from those who can speak from their own experience as well.
Thank you.

Hi Tim,
I also just started spraying and my first project happened to be an oak entertainment center. I used Fuhr waterbased satin finish. It turned out well, except for one thing. Because the finish is clear instead of golden like some oil finishes, you have to be very careful not to sand thru the stain or it will appear with whiter spots. I had some of that on my project. I talked with Jeff Jewitt about this. He recommends the following: Sand to 220, then stain, then apply a thick spray coat or two. He also said that a conditioner might be good before the stain. He then said to do a VERY light sanding with 600 sandpaper and to make sure not to sand thru stain. My second project was on birch and walnut and it turned out better. Im not there yet, but do like the convenience of spraying. One other thing I was told is not to use steel wool since they will rust with waterbased finished. I just used a shower curtain for a booth with a fan in one end of it.
Good luck
Stevo
Thanks a bunch Steve-o. I will put that one on my list.
Happy new year.
