Hello, I’m not sure if the ads on this web site are specific to me or if others are receiving the same ones. I get a lot of headless women, gun orientated or MAGA themed advertisements.
I respect and understand the need for generating revenue for my favorite magazine, but I would assume the content would be more appropriate to the context of the site. I personally find these images disturbing and if anyone knows if there’s a way to control the content or how I can delete them it would be appreciated.
Respectfully,
t.j.

Sounds a lot like targeted ads to me, I've never had any ads like that. My very uneducated guess would be someone is using the same computer as your using to search stuff related to the ads you see.
Nick is right. Anything with the little arrow thing in the corner is a targeted ad and fed from cookies you picked up somewhere in an internet browser's travels.
For the record, I have none of what you mentioned being served to me and I'm on the site more than anyone.
Attached is pic of the targeted ad thing...
I’m getting the same garbage Ben, I’m a middle aged woman whose only reason fir being targeted with this is I do woodworking which I guess belongs to a certain kind of man? There has to be a way forfine woodworking not to take money from this kind of advertising rather than blaming your readdrs for receiving it. Please do something to make the site we pay for be less offensive.
@GF, Thanks for posting this. I too just wrote it off to “it just must be targeted based on the woodworker world”. I have solved my situation by (as noted below) using DuckDuckGo which blocks ALL ads.
But separate from which targeted ads come through or one’s ability to block them or not, @BenStrano, why does FineWoodworking allow them on the paid portion of your site?
I don’t get them on Epic Woodworking or Woodsmith. Attached is a comparison of FWW and WoodSmith magazine searches - both done while logged in.
I use an ad blocker that works quite well. I sympathize with the need for advertising income, but I don't like the way they do it.
I recently downloaded duckduckgo and it was one of the best decisions I've made. Blocks ads, trackers, etc. It is browser based, so not as convenient as viewing content via apps but is totally worth it.
I get zero external ads when here. But I would guess you are using your phone to access the site rather than a 'puter.
Headless women? MAGA? I don't see any of those ads. Never.

Other than the occasional armless Mike Pekovich, my Adblocker Plus doesn't let anyones ads through..
Never seen any ads like that. I believe that Google will insert ads into just about any site you're looking at, based on things that might have recently been searched for on that computer or even under your ISP address.
Headless women? Oh my. I think I would want to clear my browsing history and cookies if I started to see that.
I’m not sure that would help. Google maintains it’s own copy of your search history…
I was seeing very similar adds from TEMU. Took above suggestion and installed DuckDuckGo on my computer and ads have been blocked. Thanks for the suggestion.
I have never seen an add on FWW. Lucky me!
I seeing “off target” ads on my phone too. Lots of noise from Temu and stuff that seems targeted at “senior insecurity.” It seems to be a change to me and it definitely cheapens the site.
If you are using Google you can block the site.
Click on the X to close the Ad and Google will give you the option to block future Pop Ups for that specific ad.
This is not a FWW issue as others have stated it is related to your web browser.
