Can you recommend a good adhesive for my 16″ disc sander. I have some old unused discs that seem to have a sticky back but not enough tack. I tried to use some repositionable 3M spray adhesive but the disc falls off overnight. Only other thing I know is rubber cement but it is sort of messy..

3M does make an adhesive for discs, called feathering disc adhesive but I'm not sure it is meant for use on discs as large as yours. You may be able to find it in the auto body section of an auto parts store. You can also order it from Jamestown Distributors for around $9 a tube.
The older disc adhesives all seem to have disappeared once self adhesive discs became available. Shellac was often used as a temporary adhesive because it could easily be redissolved with alcohol. If the back of the discs were clean I'd recommend trying the shellac route but it may not work with the old adhesive.
